Financial Controller (Redovisningsekonom) to AstraZeneca [Sweden]

The roles can be based in Södertälje or at our R&D site in Gothenburg.

What you'll do

As a member of GFR based in Sweden, your primary responsibility will be delivering high-quality financial data to assist the management team in gaining financial insight needed to make informed decisions as well as externally: to regulatory authorities, shareholders and other key partners. In other words - we get to see things through, end-to-end and not only advice. This includes responsibility in delivering financial information that follows GAAP (Swedish and IFRS) and act in an advisory role ensuring that complex reporting transactions are accurately reflected in the reports.

Our team is responsible for statutory accounting for all Swedish legal entities as well as being part of the global GFR team consolidation of the AZ group accounts and in particular managing reporting to group from Sweden. The team work as finance business partners and collaborate and give advice to the business regarding accounting implications for both IFRS accounting standards as well as Swedish GAAP. Other specific areas are the responsibility for the Swedish pensions accounting and financial assets accounting. The team is also managing all corporate transactions such as dividends, capital transactions etc.

Typical Accountabilities include:

  • Participate in the month end close reporting
  • Monitoring and managing accuracy of the accounting records for AstraZeneca AB
  • Reviewing the monthly reporting of results into the group consolidation and review of a number of Sweden Balance accounts reconciliations as well as P&L analytics including flux and activity analysis
  • Support the external audit activities ensuring deliverables are provided in line with agreed timelines. Work with key finance groups including the AstraZeneca finance shared service organisation to ensure close processes are delivered in line with global close calendar
  • Support the delivery of process improvements and finance transformation activities for the Swedish companies.
  • Support of internal controls' testing, process improvement and special global finance projects, as required
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual financial documents for all Swedish legal entities in the AZ group, and working closely with the group’s auditors
  • Participate in the preparation of the Group Annual Report

You will interact with:

This position work across different areas of Finance, Tax and other functional areas (e.g. Business Planning & Analysis, Commercial Finance, Operations, R&D, Payroll, IT, etc.) to collect information in support of deliverables. Therefore, we are expecting you to be a phenomenal communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders and interact with external auditors to ensure deliverables meet timelines.

We believe that you have:

  • A degree in Business Administration or Economics
  • At least three years’ experience of qualified finance work within accounting or audit
  • A good understanding of IFRS as well as Swedish GAAP
  • Excellent communication in Swedish and in English and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical mindset

Nice to have for the role:

  • SAP and Hyperion/Oracle experience is a merit
  • Experience of working with outsourced providers
  • Financial controls (SOX)
