Clerk A - Human Resources [Canada]


 

Under supervision of the Manager of Human Resources, the Human Resource Support – Fire provides support to the human resources division. The position is responsible for accurate record keeping of personnel information, including processing WCB claims. In addition, the position independently prepares and distributes required reports and information to a variety of stakeholders.

As the Human Resource Support you will:

  • Data enter payroll information and maintain human resource records and reports.
  • Maintain leave scheduling program and prepare related information for approval.
  • Enter data into and update internal roster/scheduling systems.
  • Monitor hours worked for overtime purposes.
  • Assist in maintaining vacation and statutory holiday information.
  • Calculate time loss due to illness for each member of Department, and record this information on the Sick Leave of Absence Record.
  • Maintain Yearly Accumulated Absentee Records for all Administrative Office staff.
  • Maintain filing systems (personnel, WCB and retired members’ files).
  • Maintain the automated Personnel Records System.
  • Type correspondence, memos, reports, retirement certificates, promotional certificates and letters as required.
  • Assist the branch in miscellaneous human resource related projects.
  • Run custom query programs and prepares related report information.
  • Provide relief for other staff when required.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the classification, as required.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • High school (Grade 12) graduation or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Formal training in business office procedures or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (basic proficiency – 65%) (would be desired).
  • Ability to type accurately at an average level (40 wpm - net) (would be desired).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work as part of a team with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workloads.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality in Human Resource and office matters.
  • Ability to meet daily time sensitive deadlines and at times work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction and to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain accurate files and records.
